Goedecke & Co. is a member of Real Estate Finance Associates, a national organization of independent mortgage banking firms. Founded in 1979, REFA evolved from the pioneering James W. Rouse Company, the commercial mortgage banking affiliate of the famous regional mall developer.
Each of the original founding REFA member firms either had been an original Rouse regional office or had one or more principals who had worked for the Rouse organization. Each therefore had an understanding of the communications advantages of a national network plus a clear concept of the distractions, conflicts of interest and motivational disadvantages of centralized ownership. (Real Estate Finance Associates has no connection with the Greater Boston Real Estate Board’s REFA affiliate, which was established in 1987 in New England.) To this day, the REFA firms are all independently owned by mortgage banker managers, who are active in their companies.
Through membership in REFA Goedecke & Co. shares information on a real time basis concerning capital market investors, and can obtain current real estate market information throughout much of the country. The REFA member firms frequently assist one another when real estate owners from one market own properties in different markets.
There are currently eight REFA companies nationally with 17 offices and 61 mortgage loan originators. The REFA comnpanies service more than 1,900 loans with balances totaling more than $14 billion.
